Sap to Syrup & Sustainable Forest Management Workshop @ Cornell's Arnot Forest

Experience hands-on learning at the Arnot Teaching & Research Forest. You will learn sustainable forest management practices and how you can implement them into your own woodlot. You will also have the opportunity to tour a sugarbush, sap collection system, sugarhouse and get an overview of syrup production (weather dependent, they may still be making syrup!) 

This event is free to Veterans and Active Service members. Cost is $15 to the general public.

2019 New York State Maple Tour @ The Grange Building , Erie County Fairgrounds, Hamburg, NY 14075

The 2019 Maple Tour will be hosted by the Western NY Maple Producers Association and will be centered at the Grange Building of the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg, NY.

 

Registration deadline is June 15th, 2019.

 

Food and Tour Package (tour transportation in air-conditioned charter busses):
Full Tour Package – $190 per person – includes: Friday Evening Social, Tradeshow, Lunch on Saturday & Sunday, Saturday night Banquet
Single Day – Saturday or Sunday $95 per person. One Day Tour Transportation, one Lunch, Tradeshow (does not include Saturday night Banquet)
Banquet only – $40 (included in the Full Tour Package)
Tradeshow Only – $25 (included in the Full Tour Package)
Late Fee (after June 15, 2019) – $20 per person single or full tour, $10 per person Banquet only

Maple Syrup Testing – A Special Feature of the 2019 New York State Maple Tour

Maple Tour attendees can bring syrup samples for testing invert sugar levels and syrup density in brix. Syrup samples (¾ oz. will be plenty) should be brought to the tour registration table on Friday evening. If you make any crystalized maple value added products such as maple granulated sugar, maple candy, maple cream or maple coated nuts this testing for Invert and Density and be valuable information or serve as a comparison with tests you may have been conducting. Also, Bourbon Syrup can be tested for the alcohol percent. This testing is possible because of a grant from the Genesee Valley Regional Market Authority and WNY Maple Producers. Results will be returned to you at the banquet on Saturday night.

Cornell Maple Camp @ Cornell University Arnot Teaching and Research Forest, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County

Cornell Maple Camp provides intensive, hands-on training for beginner and less experienced maple producers. The 4-day curriculum begins with sugarbush assessment, then builds sequentially through all phases of maple syrup production from sap collection to boiling, bottling and sales. Participants will gain the skills necessary for the safe, efficient and profitable production of maple products. Classroom sessions will be held in the Schuyler County Cornell Extension office in Montour Falls. Field sessions will take place in the Arnot Teaching and Research Forest in Van Etten. The cost for the training and meals is $250 per person. A group discount is available at the rate of $250 for the first registrant and $200 for each additional registrant.
